Last week one of my favorite mommy bloggers was sharing about the amazing organization 31 bits. 31 bits was created in 2008 when five college students from Southern California visiting Uganda realized a need to help the women there provide shelter, food and education for their families. They partnered with the women to help them market and sell their beautiful handmade jewelry. They are now working with 35 women and changing lives. Love was having a giveaway on her blog that day and just by leaving a little comment you could be entered in the drawing. Guess who won?!! Yep, me! Couldn't believe it and I was so excited to have a piece of this precious jewelry. I got me necklace a few days ago and I had a great time yesterday staging it all over our yard...I'm thinking prop photographer would be a fun job. Anyways, I share this not to gloat about my winnings but to encourage you to check out 31 Bits and maybe order yourself a pretty piece of jewelry. Or if you live close by come to my party in October and see it for yourself. It is really beautiful and even better it enables women to provide for their families. Christmas is not too far away and this would be the perfect gift for that special someone. I know sometimes the weight of the world and the hurt that happens seems so much to bear. Too overwhelming to do anything about. So we just don't. We turn our backs and we try to forget it's there and we move on with our comfy lives. But the truth is it's there. The poverty, the homelessness, the disease, the widow, the orphan, the hurt. It is all there and we can do something. Maybe we can't do everything but we can do one thing. By supporting these kinds of organizations, sponsoring a child, supporting missionaries or wearing those adoption t-shirts we can make a difference. It may not seem like a lot but every little bit counts and when we are each doing our little bit it starts to amount to a lot of bits.
